Uncommon approach to learn django by starting from the very basic of handcoding everything, skipping some of the shortcut provided by django-admin startproject command. One of the major problem faced by many Django developer is that they don't know where to look into if something goes wrong with their Django app. The framework is seen as a blackbox and something magical. It's not.
